Hello! I am Debra Rose Howell and a very proud teacher at Monte Cristo Elementary. This is my 30th year of teaching, all here at Granite Falls. I team teach with my brother, Mike Schireman. This is our 15th year teaming together and the 21th year of a very successful intermediate multiage program here in Granite Falls.
I have two children that both graduated from the Granite Falls School District. My son Chris is an electrical lineman who is working on his appreticeship in Iowa. My daughter Kaitlan is a senior at Western Washington University studying to be a teacher. I am so very proud of both of my children.
I enjoy going to Zumba classes at the gym, biking, writing, working on computer projects, and teaching classes through state universities. This summer I worked with digedu, a brand new company in Chicago to write 6th grade Language Arts curriculum. In addition to the pay for my work, they donated 54 Google Nexus Tablets for our students to use! This is $20,000 worth of technology! We will be using this as an integral part of our multiage program.
Mr. Schireman and I have worked very hard to create a highly successful program for our 4th-5th-and 6th graders. The children come in very young and leave confident young men and women. My greatest joys include former students coming by to chat, or actually having former student's children in my classroom.
If you are new to multiage, interested in hearing more, or just checking in to see the latest happenings....our doors are always open.
To another fabulolus year in multiage!
