Hello! I am Debra Rose Howell and a very proud teacher at Monte Cristo Elementary. This is my 29th year of teaching, all here at Granite Falls. I team teach with my brother, Mike Schireman. This is our 15th year teaming together and the 20th year of a very successful intermediate multiage program here in Granite Falls.

I have two children that both graduated from the Granite Falls School District. My son Chris is an electrical lineman who is working on his appreticeship in Iowa. My daughter Kaitlan is a junior at Western Washington University studying to be a teacher. I am so very proud of both of my children.

I enjoy going to Zumba classes at the gym, biking, writing, working on computer projects, and teaching classes through state universities.

This past summer was highlighted with a trip to Reno, Nevada to receive the Veterans of Foreign War National Teacher of the Year Award. Having many fellow teaching friends, administrators, and family with me made it very special. Meeting and chatting with President Obama however will remain a highlight.

Mr. Schireman and I have worked very hard to create a highly successful program for our 4th-5th-and 6th graders. The children come in very young and leave confident young men and women. My greatest joys include former students coming by to chat, or actually having former student's children in my classroom.

If you are new to multiage, interested in hearing more, or just checking in to see the latest happenings....our doors are always open.

To another fabulolus year in multiage!

Debra Howell
